By now we should have both the SQL and SSAS configurations completed. In this article, we'll be performing the final step of installing Kepion onto the Web Server, which is made easy by the automatic Installation and Configuration Wizards.
If you need to perform the steps of the Installation and Configuration Wizards manually for any reason, use this article.
Install SQL Components
If you haven't already, make sure that you've installed the relevant SQL components below onto your Web Server machine. If your SQL Server and Web Server are on the same machine, the following installations are likely not necessary, as the components should be installed with SQL by default.
Ensure as well that the components you're downloading match the SQL and SSAS versions that you're using. While not typical, it's possible that your SQL and SSAS installations are different versions from one another.
- SQL Version: SQL 2008 R2
- Install Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2 Analysis Management Objects
- Install Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2 ADOMD.NET
- Install Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2 Native Client
- Reboot after installation to allow components to register
- SQL Version: SQL 2012/2014/2016/2017
- Install Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Analysis Management Objects
- Install Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 ADOMD.NET
- Install Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 Native Client
- Reboot after installation to allow components to register
Install Kepion
To begin the actual installation, download the following file from the Kepion Resource Center > Software Downloads > v6.0:
- 6.0 Kepion Setup x64.zip
Unzip the file 6.0 Kepion Setup x64.zip, and run the setup file Kepion Planning 6.0.msi on your Web Server machine. Accept the terms of the license agreement and specify the location on the machine to install Kepion 6.0.
Click Next.
Click Install, and then click Finish to exit the Installation Wizard.
Configure Kepion
It's likely that the Kepion Configuration Wizard opens immediately after closing the Installation window. In the event that it doesn't, however, you can open it manually through the Windows Start menu:
For a brand new installation, select Create a new application host. Otherwise select Connect to an existing one if this is not the first web server being configured for deployment.
Specify the SQL Server machine and database name. The default name used is CPMAppHost. You can also select the default server language.
Specify the Kepion Service Account. This is the Kepion SI we previously created and will be the account that runs the Web Server and the connection to both the SQL and the SSAS servers.
Click Finish to launch the Kepion 6.0 website!
Configure Your Browser
As Kepion is an online service, it's critical to ensure that you're connecting to Kepion through a compatible browser that's been configured correctly.
If you're accessing Kepion from a modern browser (e.g. Chrome/Edge/etc.), ensure that you have Kepion enabled for use with HTML. To configure Kepion to be compatible with HTML, check out the Setup Guide Addendum.
If you are using IE to connect to Kepion, please ensure that Microsoft Silverlight 5.0 is installed. In addition, make sure the following settings are properly configured:
Note: The following settings are only important to configure if you're a developer on Kepion. End Users do not need their browsers configured in this way.
Click the Tools button in IE and click Internet options.
Go to the Security tab. Select Local intranet. Click Custom level…
Scroll down to the Scripting section -> Allow Programmatic clipboard access. Change the selection to Enable and click OK.
Wrap Up
Once all of the above has been configured to meet your requirements, you're all set to start using Kepion. Take a look at the Sample APPs section to get ideas and inspiration on what you can create, or look into our Modeler Tutorial or Video Tutorials series to follow along with the design, development, and deployment of a Kepion APP.
If you have additional questions, or more specific setup concerns and requirements, check out our Setup Guide - Addendum. If you have a question that hasn't been answered in this series, please send us a ticket and we'll do our best to help out.
