Modeler Guide Overview
Kepion Modeler provides users with a simple interface to design and build business models that can be used for gathering, reporting, and analyzing data across the enterprise.
Users with the Designer role can access the MODELER by selecting the MODELER node in the navigation pane, as shown below.
Application Concept
What is an application? To start, an application is the business object that ties together all the related business modeling items into a central point of configuration as shown in the figure below.
By using basic building blocks, you can create simple to complex structures that model your business requirements. The four main building blocks within the Modeler include:
- Model: A container for how data is structured and stored within an application.
- Dimension: A container for reference information to the data, holding such items as customer names, zip codes, account type, etc. Dimensions can be reused by multiple models.
- Form: A configurable display that shows data via form views. Views are organized with a standardized layout including row, column and filter regions that are fully configurable.
- Rule: A configurable element that determines how data behaves. Rules have full capability to modify and extrapolate information stored within models
Technical business users can create a Kepion application for gathering sales forecasts by creating a forecast model and its related dimensions and configure an input form to gather updates to the model. With the Kepion Modeler, you can create multiple applications that can target different purposes ranging from financial forecasting to HR budgeting.
Create Application
To create a new application, navigate to the SYSTEM page. To create a new application, you must be a System Administrator.
Click the Add button which will open the Add Application window. When naming the application, it's recommended to use only regular characters and numbers and to keep the name short. This allows for easier manageability by data integrators when referencing names within the system.
When a new application is created, a new SQL database is also generated. This database can be found on the same SQL Server instance as the main database server for the Kepion system.
Organize Application
Applications can be categorized for better manageability. To assign an application to a category, simply put a value to the Category field in the right panel.
Delete Application
To delete an application, click the remove button.
This removes the physical application’s SQL database from the SQL Server instance. It is recommended that a backup is taken before deleting the application database to provide recover-ability should a mistake be made.
Add Users to Application
After the application is created, you can add the initial set of users through the ADMINISTRATOR page.
Please refer to the Kepion Administrator Guide for details on adding users to application and granting system level roles.
