Introduction
While importing data into Kepion is often straightforward, there are a few common errors you may encounter. In this FAQ, we explain why those errors occur and how you fix them.
Missing Columns
This error occurs when the imported table does not have one or more of the columns in the data partitions. The data partition's columns are determined by the Model's Dimensions, so review the Mapping tab to identify the columns you need to include in the imported table.
Member List Issue
This error occurs when the missing Member is in the Dimension, but not in the Member List used on the Model. Below you can see that Argentina is in the All_Entity list:
However, it's not in the Entity Member List.
If the Member was removed from the Member List, but data for the Member still exists in the Model, you will see the yellow warning icon in the partition. You can easily filter to these missing Members by selecting Show data errors.
In case you want to eliminate all data errors from the table, please make sure to have Show data errors selected and no other Filters enabled. Click Delete to perform the action.
Attention: Deleting data cannot be undone. We recommend you check the "total" record count vs the "displayed" record count to know the impact of the delete action.
In case you want to keep the data, you can add this Member back into the Member List. Go to the target Model and verify the lists being used.
Go to the Entity Member List and select Add Existing.
Select the target Member List from the drop-down, and then the Member(s).
Click Add when you're done, and then deploy the Application.
Dimension Issue
Doesn't Exist in Dimension
This error occurs when the missing Member does not exist in the Dimension at all. Below you can see that Canada is not in the All_Entity list.
Two possible resolutions to this problem are:
- Fixing any misspelt Dimension Members in the imported file OR in the Kepion Dimension.
- Adding a new Member to the Dimension
If the Member was deleted from the Dimension, but data for the Member still exists in the Model, you will see the red error icon in the partition.
Excel Data Issue
Sometimes, you'll receive a "Member not in Dimension" error when it appears the Member does exist in the Dimension. This error often occurs when data has been changed by Microsoft Excel.
The Time Dimension's data, in particular, is prone to Excel's formatting changes:
Before you import data, double-check the table to make sure the Members (especially, Time's Members) are written correctly. You can also verify whether Excel has automatically changed your data by checking the Number section in the ribbon's Home tab. The drop-down should be set to General.
Tip: We recommend opening exported .csv files in a plain text editor, so Excel does not impose any formatting on your data.
