Introduction
The Permission node allows administrators to configure an app user's permission to access data. Permissions can be defined by models and dimension members.
This article covers:
- Navigating to the Permission node.
- The Permission node's layout and functionality.
- Resources for further learning.

1. Go to Administrator and select an application.
2. Go to Permission using the left navigation.
3. Select a user, group, or role from the Configure dropdown.
You will land on the following page:
View permissions
Upon reaching this node, you will see a list of data access permissions. The column values provide key information about the permissions.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Detail | The dimension member or model to which permission has been granted. |
| Read | Whether read permission has been granted. |
| Write | Whether write permission has been granted. |
| Inherit From | The role or group the permission is inherited from. |
Manage model security
Model security controls whether users can access data from a model.
Users must have access to a model to view data in forms and charts that use that model. If a user does not have the required access, they will receive a connection error when attempting to view those resources.
From the Permission node, you can grant read and write access to models for the selected user, group, or role.
Manage dimension member security
Dimension member security controls which members of a dimension a user can access.
By default, if no dimension member security is configured, users have read and write access to all members of that dimension. Once dimension member security is defined, access becomes restrictive: users can access only the members for which permission is granted.
From the Permission node, you can grant read and write access to dimension members for the selected user, group, or role.
